Short Description:

Slag wool is a kind of mineral wool. Mineral wool includes slag wool, rock wool, glass wool, aluminum silicate refractory fiber and other varieties. Slag wool is a cotton filament-like inorganic fiber mainly made of molten slag (blast furnace slag, copper slag, aluminum slag, etc.). Pure slag wool has very low iron element, so it is white or off-white. Under normal circumstances, people are accustomed to collectively refer to slag wool and rock wool (made from molten natural igneous rock) as mineral wool.

Slag wool has the characteristics of light weight, low thermal conductivity, non-combustion, moth-proof, corrosion resistance, good chemical stability, good sound absorption performance, low price, etc. It can be made into boards, felts, blankets, mats, ropes, etc for materials of sound, shock absorption, thermal insulation and thermal insulation. It is the main energy-saving material in the internationally recognized “fifth conventional energy”

The pure slag wool thrown out will go through the process of crushing, fixed length and slag removal, and finally form our fine slag wool fibers.  so it is off-white. Pure slag wool has almost no loss on ignition.

The surface of the slag wool is smooth and cylindrical, and its cross-section is a complete circle. This is mainly due to the fact that the blast furnace slag shrinks into a circular shape with the smallest surface area under the action of surface tension before cooling and solidifying into fibers.

When the acidity coefficient is 1.0-1.3, the fibers of blast furnace slag are thin and the fibers are arranged in an orderly manner; with the increase of the acidity coefficient, the fiber diameter tends to increase, and at the same time, a small amount of slag balls are included in the fibers, and the fiber quality deteriorates. Generally speaking, the higher the acidity coefficient, the better the chemical durability of slag wool. However, when the acidity coefficient is too high, the resulting fibers may be longer. Although the chemical stability is improved, it is more difficult to melt, the fibers are thicker, and even cannot be formed into fibers. Therefore, in actual production, the acidity coefficient of slag wool can generally only be maintained at 1.2, and it is difficult to reach 1.3.

The fiber as such is used as a raw material for its reinforcing purposes in various applications, such as friction materials, gaskets, plastics, and coatings, sealing and road engineering and etc. Our slag wool mineral fiber is mainly applied to friction(brake pads and linings).

● Non asbestos
Our slag wool mineral fiber has no asbestos and can be ideal alternatives of asbestos for friction application. What’s the most important, it is at far lower price than asbestos.

● Low Ignition loss
At high temperature, some inorganic substances in mineral fibers will be burned off, resulting in fiber loss on ignition rate. Slag wool mineral fiber are pure inorganic fiber without any organic composition, so it hardly have a fiber burn rate.

● Very low shot content
The HB11X shot content can be controlled below 2% after six times of shot removal process. Shot will bring wear and noise. Shot content is one of the standards to velue fiber quality.
